The Panda Cares Scholars Program is a collection of scholarship opportunities for high-performing students with a desire for service. The program provides access to rigorous career development training designed to challenge our scholars to achieve excellence and raise the bar in campus leadership and community service.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

The Panda Cares First-Year Scholars Program is a one-time postsecondary scholarship for graduating high school seniors entering their first year of college.

Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a graduating high school senior planning to enroll in fall 2020 as a full-time, first-year student at an accredited U.S. located four-year college or university
  • Eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant in the first year of college and have a demonstrated need as determined by the student’s college or university of enrollment
  • Possess a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • A citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Enrolled as a full-time freshman in fall 2020, attending a U.S.-located, four-year accredited college or university
  • Reside at the time of selection in any of the following states or territory: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin

The Panda Cares Scholars Program is a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted students. The Panda Cares Scholars Program will award a three-year renewable scholarship for up to $15,500 (up to $3,500 sophomore year, up to $5,000 junior year and $7,000 senior year) to highly capable future leaders for America who demonstrate academic achievement, strong leadership skills and a commitment to community service.

 Selection Process

* A letter of recommendation;

* A personal statement to demonstrate their grit in their pursuit of a college education;

* A copy of their financial aid award letter from the college they are attending;

* A full copy of their most recent FAFSA student aid report;

* Their final high school transcript;

* A statement describing their extracurricular activities, honors and awards, and community service

SOPHOMORES

The goal of the Panda Cares Scholars Program is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential by reducing financial barriers, offering year round professional development coaching and exposing students to the importance of community engagement. We aim to develop a diversified cadre of future leaders for America who, upon college graduation, will demonstrate academic achievement, strong leadership skills and a commitment to community service.

Proven Academic Success

  • Our scholars have academically maintained a 3.0 GPA while matriculating at his/her selected U.S.-accredited, four-year higher education institution

Commitment to Community Service

  • Scholars should have a minimum of 20 hours of community service at the time of application and be committed to maintaining an annual minimum of 20 hours of community service while in the program

Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must be a sophomore, enrolled full-time at a four-year, accredited college/university during the application period –  (current college freshmen who will begin college in fall 2020 as a college sophomore)
  • Students must have a demonstrated unmet financial need as verified by the Financial Aid Office of their college/university of enrollment
  • Students must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Students must submit a personal essay that demonstrates both leadership potential and a commitment to community service
  • Students must submit one letter of recommendation from a non-family member that evidences their leadership potential and community service
  • Students must complete an online application describing extracurricular activities, honors and awards, community service and career goals
  • A citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Enrolled at and attending a U.S.-located, four-year accredited college or university
  • Reside at the time of selection in any of the following states or territory: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin

PROGRAM BENEFITS

Tiered tuition scholarship with funding up to $15,500:

* Up to $3,500 per academic year for sophomores, $5,000 for juniors and $5,000 for seniors.

* Scholarships are renewable for three undergraduate years, contingent upon:

1) Maintenance of a 3.0 (out of 4.0) GPA + continued full-time enrollment at a U.S. located, accredited college and university

2) Academic support and mentoring

Participation in:

* New Scholars Orientation

* Panda Cares Leadership Institute

Career-development support:

* Mentoring, training and education

* Access to entrepreneurial training in launching community service ventures through student leadership conference
